At Kingston Resorts, we know a thing or two about pairing good times with fun activities and experiences by the ocean. Another thing we know a thing or two about? Craft beer from the Carolinas. At Black Drum Brewing, you’ll find an extensive draft beer list with 40 taps featuring beverages brewed in North and South Carolina. We know that’s a lot to choose from, so here’s a little quiz to help you decide which types of draft beer you should try next time you visit our Myrtle Beach location. Just remember, there are no wrong answers, and if you can’t decide, why not order a flight of four drinks and discover your next favorite beer from the Carolinas. Please note we’re always updating our tap lists, so certain beers may only be available for a limited time.

Would you rather spend the day at the beach or by the pool?

You really can’t go wrong with a day at the beach or an entire day lounging by the pool. At Kingston Resorts, you can do either one. Or both on the same day. We have two waterslides and an outdoor pool at Currents Seaside Entertainment, and even more pools throughout the property. When it comes to saltwater and sand, our oceanfront resort has nearly a mile of beach. So, would you rather spend the day at the beach or by the pool?

Beach beer pairing: Day Light brewed by Wicked Weed Brewing in Asheville, North Carolina.

This pale lager is perfect for a beach day. At 4.1% ABV (alcohol by volume), it’s light and refreshing, much like a carefree day listening to the gentle waves of the Atlantic Ocean crashing into the soft sand of the shore. You’ll often find this beer on draft at Wet Whistle, our bar on the beach.

Pool beer pairing: Sommerbier brewed by Bevi Bene Brewing Co. in Charleston, South Carolina.

Whether you’re chilling poolside on a chaise lounge chair, a daybed, or a cabana, this pale lager will make relaxing even better. At 5.1% ABV, this beer is full of flavor and tastes even better poolside. Find this beer at Black Drum Brewing, with a bar open until midnight, so the good times can go late into the night.

Would you rather order fresh seafood or house-smoked meats?

The Lowcountry is famous for its fresh seafood, and you’ll find it throughout all the menus at Kingston Resorts. From shrimp and grits to the fresh catch of the day featuring local fish, our Myrtle Beach resort is a seafood paradise. It’s also a must-visit destination for barbeque lovers. Black Drum Brewing has two meat smokers and a menu featuring Carolina pulled pork, Carolina gold chicken, dry-rubbed smokehouse ribs, and CAB brisket. Try it all with the BBQ Sample Board featuring all these meats along with Black Drum beer brat, BBQ pork rinds, french fries, Southern slaw, mixed pickles, sweet rolls, IPA mustard, and comeback sauce. It’s a tough choice, so which one will you go with?

Seafood beer pairing: Harmonic Hefeweizen brewed by Tidal Creek Brewhouse in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Much like you don’t need to go far to find fresh, local seafood at Kingston Resorts, it’s easy to find this wheat beer brewed right here in Myrtle Beach. At 5.3% ABV and 12 International Bitterness Units, this hefeweizen — which translates to yeast beer — is flavorful but won’t overpower the delicate seafood flavors. A bonus pick, and not just for its name, is the Chill Vibes pilsner brewed in Boiling Springs, South Carolina by New Groove Artisan Brewing. This crisp beer tastes great with seafood, especially the shrimp you’ll find in our Carolina Low Country Boil.

Smoked-Meat Pairing: Coastal Haze brewed by Legal Remedy Brewing in Rock Hill, South Carolina.

This India Pale Ale is brewed just for Black Drum Brewing, so naturally, it pairs well with our house-smoked meats, bringing the most out of the BBQ flavors our guests know and love. It features El Dorado and Simcoe hops, giving it a pineapple and mango aroma and an earthy finish that goes well with pork and chicken.

Would you rather listen to live music in the evening or grab a pint after a bike ride?

Flipping down the kickstand after a bike ride around our beautiful resort grounds (including the beach)? Or kicking back and taking in live music from the patio of Black Drum Brewing?

Pedaling around on two wheels is one of our favorite ways to take in the sights and sounds of the resort grounds and the hard-packed sand of the beach! There are 10 adult and six kid-sized bikes available for all-day rentals from 78 Fitness. If you like a refreshing pint of beer on a patio by the ocean while listening to live music, Black Drum Brewing has you covered. There’s live music from 6pm to 9pm on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday nights featuring local musicians, including Melissa Joiner, JP Taylor, Gary Alexander, and more.

So which one would you rather? Live music or a bike ride. There are no hard and fast rules, you could even take a bike ride and then enjoy live music for the perfect vacation day.

Cycling enthusiast beer pairing: Leather Jacket Porter by Edmund’s Oast Brewing Company, Charleston, South Carolina

After an oceanside bike ride, there’s nothing quite as refreshing as a cold beer (and maybe a drink of water to rehydrate!). This American porter has an earthy profile thanks to notes of chocolate and oak along with a sweet caramel touch. On the hop side of things, cascade and centennial hops add fresh citrus flavors to this beer that adds coastal comfort to your Kingston Resorts visit. And while this beer pairs well with riding a bicycle, the Leather Jacket name is sure to be a favorite for motorcyclists as well.

Live music beer pairing: Dirty Myrtle brewed by New South Brewing, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

This double India pale ale/imperial beer is jam-packed with flavorful hops — Mosaic, Simcoe, and Falconer’s Flight — and has an 8.9% ABV. Its logo is a pink flamingo wearing sunglasses, which is pretty rock and roll if you ask us. This is an excellent choice for music lovers looking for a complete taste of Myrtle Beach while listening to local music and sipping this local brew.
